I love to share the joy of painting to many levels of student, from very beginner to intermediate and advanced for those looking to insert unusual techniques into their watercolor work. There are several options to consider, depending on what you desire to learn on your art journey.
Watercolor & Wine paint nights are a great way to test the waters, so to speak, as all materials are provided, and step-by-step instruction is easy to follow in this two-hour class.
Watercolor Unwound monthly classes are offered as a tool to explore your own materials and expand your techniques. In each 3-hour class, you will delve deep into a specific topic such as skies, water, mixing colors, shadows, etc.
Landscapes Rediscovered, a workshop offered by Cascade Fine Arts, will be offered in May of 2020. The exact date has not been determined yet. This three-day workshop focuses on creating textured watercolor and mixed media paintings using my unusual technique. For 2020, we will be challenging ourselves to use a photo of RUST to create an abstract, colorful landscape. This is a great opportunity to advance your painting from beyond representational to a more interpretive, abstract realm, while experimenting with unusual texture in your paintings.
Watercolor on the Trail, Watercolor and hiking were made for each other! These experiences will be adventures in which we hike to a destination and paint our surroundings en plein air. In these classes, you will begin to learn how to capture nature using a travelling watercolor journal and supplies. Each hike will be posted as I organize them, and will be varying degrees of difficulty (but keep in mind they won't be extremely strenuous). Traditional watercolor on paper techniques. You will be responsible for arriving at the destination with your supplies, food, water, and appropriate attire. See Workshops & Classes and scroll down. NOTE: 2020 schedule has not been published yet.
In addition, I offer art retreats abroad, such as Paint Tuscany and Paint Costa Rica. New in 2020 is Paint Sante Fe. No in experience is necessary as you tour local culture and surrounding beauty, while either improving your painting skills or learning the basics of watercolor.
Paint Tuscany: April 2020. FULL
Paint Sante Fe: Fall 2020. Exact dates, cost, and inclusions coming this fall. I am in the process of confirming this trip and will post information shortly.
Paint Costa Rica: Fall 2021. Exact dates, cost, and inclusions coming soon.

As a watercolor and mixed media artist, instructor, and self-proclaimed art enthusiast, I have uncanny insight into the steps it takes to develop a painting, to blend colors, and to enjoy the process. I enthusiastically teach art and lead these adventurous art retreats and workshops to various countries and within the US.
Workshops are also frequently offered near my hometown in Bend, Oregon, as well as other locations around the US. A schedule of workshops will be posted in a drop-down tab of Art Adventures.

"Our trip to Tuscany to paint with Sarah as our teacher was extraordinary in so many ways. We were based in the most beautiful countryside in the world with excursions to historic hill towns to photograph awesome points of interest. Sarah taught us techniques of watercolor painting while focusing on one of our photos each day. We experienced the culture, food, history, and the people all while painting a record of what Italy is about with a wonderful small group from Oregon. Sarah took watercolor novices and gently brought us confidence and skill. It was truly the experience of a lifetime!" ~Mary Lou, Paint Tuscany 2017, from Oregon
"The best trip and teacher in so many ways" ~ Marlene, Paint Tuscany 2017, from Oregon
"What can I say? 'This was a trip to remember', doesn't quite sum it up. It was more than that. So thrilled with the daily excursions and amazing watercolor lessons. You are such a great teacher." ~ Christy, Paint Tuscany 2018, from Illinois
