I love to share the joy of painting to many levels of student, from very beginner to intermediate and advanced for those looking to insert looser techniques into their artwork. I work in and teach watercolor, acrylic, and gouache. Most classes are specific to one of those mediums. There are several options to consider, depending on what you desire to learn on your art journey.
Local Art Instruction
Watercolor Unwound ON HOLD 2021. Monthly classes are offered as a tool to explore your own materials and expand your techniques. In each 3-hour class, you will delve deep into a specific topic such as skies, water, mixing colors, shadows, etc.
Watercolor & Wine ON HOLD 2021. Paint nights are a great way to test the waters, so to speak, as all materials are provided, and step-by-step instruction is easy to follow in this two-hour class.
Watercolor on the Trail, ON HOLD 2021. Watercolor and hiking were made for each other! These experiences will be adventures in which we hike to a destination and paint our surroundings en plein air. In these classes, you will begin to learn how to capture nature using a travelling watercolor journal and supplies. Each hike will be posted as I organize them, and will be varying degrees of difficulty (but keep in mind they won't be extremely strenuous). Traditional watercolor on paper techniques. You will be responsible for arriving at the destination with your supplies, food, water, and appropriate attire. NOTE: 2021 schedule has not been published yet. When these become available, I will post here.
How-to instruction via YouTube channel available. At this time, all are free of charge. Instructional Videos.

Upcoming Workshops Outside of Oregon
"Our trip to Tuscany to paint with Sarah as our teacher was extraordinary in so many ways. We were based in the most beautiful countryside in the world with excursions to historic hill towns to photograph awesome points of interest. Sarah taught us techniques of watercolor painting while focusing on one of our photos each day. We experienced the culture, food, history, and the people all while painting a record of what Italy is about with a wonderful small group from Oregon. Sarah took watercolor novices and gently brought us confidence and skill. It was truly the experience of a lifetime!" ~Mary Lou, Paint Tuscany 2017, from Oregon
"The best trip and teacher in so many ways" ~ Marlene, Paint Tuscany 2017, from Oregon
"What can I say? 'This was a trip to remember', doesn't quite sum it up. It was more than that. So thrilled with the daily excursions and amazing watercolor lessons. You are such a great teacher." ~ Christy, Paint Tuscany 2018, from Illinois
As a watercolor and mixed media artist, instructor, and self-proclaimed art enthusiast, I have uncanny insight into the steps it takes to develop a painting, to blend colors, and to enjoy the process. I enthusiastically teach art and lead these adventurous art retreats and workshops to various countries and within the US.
